Rapid Response Duffel Locker™

The Rapid Response Duffel Locker™ is designed to meet the needs of first responders for the secure and economical storage of their gear. Whether called to action or waiting for their return, these lockers will keep users’ belongings and gear safe and ready for that critical first response. Individually locked compartments allow for quick access and are sized to fit pre-loaded duty bags and oversized TA-50 duffel bags, backpacks, and cases. Lockers are provided as individual units for ease of mobility and relocation as the mission demands.

Rapid Response Lockers are designed with a Knocked Down construction and ship unassembled, though assembly is available. The tough exterior utilizes a 16-gauge body and 18 gauge back, along with heavy-duty 14 gauge doors on continuous hinges featuring Cremone handles.

1.03      SUBMITTALS

  1. Submit under provisions of Section 01 33 00.
  2. Shop Drawings: Show the following:
    1. Dimensioned drawings including plans, elevations, and sections to  show locker locations and interfaces with adjacent substrates.
    2. Details of assembly, erection, anchorage and clearance requirements.
  3. Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of  color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and   finishes.


  1. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
  2. Protect locker finish and adjacent surfaces from damage.

2.02      MATERIALS

  1. Steel: Prime grade mild cold-rolled sheet steel free from surface imperfection,   capable of taking a high-grade enamel finish and in compliance with ASTM A1008.
  2. Steel: Sheet steel components shall be fabricated using zinc-coated steel free from surface imperfection, capable of taking a high-grade enamel finish and in compliance with ASTM A879.
  3. Bolts and Nuts: Zinc plated truss fin head bolts and hex nuts.
  4. Provide only metal lockers fabricated in the United States by a single domestic manufacturer.


  1. Heavy Duty Lockers: All locker body components made of cold rolled steel specially formed for added strength and rigidity and to ensure tight joints at fastening points.
  2. Locker Body Construction:  Steel specially formed for added strength and rigidity and to ensure tight joints at fastening points.
    1. Sides, Bottoms and Tops:
      1. 16 gauge steel.
      2. Optional side ventilation: Solid or Diamond 3/4 inch (19.5 mm) wide by 1-1/2 inch (38.1 mm) high diamond-shaped perforations
    2. Backs: Solid 18 gauge steel. One-piece through 42 inches (1066.8 mm) wide; supplied as two 24 inch (609.6 mm) panels on 48 inch (1219.2 mm) wide lockers.
    3. Doors:
      1.          14 gauge steel.
      2.          Standard Ventilation: Solid
      3. Optional Ventilation: Louvers 6 inch (152.4 mm) wide by 3/4 inch high (19.05 mm) high horizontal louvers arranged in two groups of 3. Diamond-shaped perforations 3/4 inch (19.05 mm) wide by 1-1/2 inch (38.1 mm)
    4. Tops and bottoms with three sides formed 90 degrees, the front offset formed to be flush with horizontal frame member.
    5. Hole Spacing in Locker Body Construction: Not exceeding 9 inches (228.6mm).
    6. Optional factory assembly of locker bodies using rivets.
  3. Locker Doors:  One piece sheet steel.
    1. Provide holes for attaching number plates.
    2. Standard Ventilation: Solid
    3. Optional Ventilation:  Louvers 6 inch (152.4 mm) wide by ¾” high (19.05 mm) high horizontal louvers arranged in two groups of 3. Diamond-shaped perforations 3/4 inch (19.5 mm) wide by 1-1/2 inch (38.1 mm)
  4. Hinges:
    1. Continuous type: 16 gauge piano hinge measuring full height of door. Welded to door and attached to locker frame using steel rivets.


  1. Two, Three and Four Tier Lockers:
    1. Cremone Latching: Handle shall be a heavy duty turn handle that engages the door frame on three sides. The top and bottom frames are engaged with 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) steel rods, and a 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick center latch engages at the side.
      1. Double door configurations shall consist of a left hinged door secured  its full length by the right hinged door when latched.
      2. Handle assembly shall be secured to door using a threaded lock nut to facilitate adjustment and removal for repair if necessary. Welded handle assemblies shall not be accepted.
      3. Double door configurations delivered knocked down will have doors shipped separately for attachment on site using supplied hardware.
      4. Provide lock hole cover plate for use with padlocks.


  1. Number Plates: Provide each locker with a polished aluminum number plate,
  2. 2-1/4 inches (57.15 mm) wide by 1 inch (25.4 mm) high, with black numerals not less than 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) high; attach to face of door with two aluminum rivets.
  3. Locks: Built-in flat key locks; master-key to same series.
  4. Locks: Built-in grooved key locks (pin tumbler); master-key to same series.
  5. Locks: Built-in three-number dialing combination locks capable of at least five different combination changes; provide master key, combination change key, and combination control charts.
  6. Padlocks: Master-keyed three-number dialing combination type padlocks; provide master key.
  7. Continuous sloped hoods: 16 gauge steel, slope rise equal to 1/3 of the locker depth (18.5 degrees), plus a 1 inch (25.4 mm) vertical rise at front.
    1. Supplied in 72 inch (1828.8 mm) lengths only.
    2. Slip joints without visible fasteners at splice locations.
    3. Provide necessary end closures.
    4. Finish to match lockers.
  8. Finished End Panels: Minimum 16 gauge steel formed to match locker depth and  height, 1 inch (25.4 mm) edge dimension; finish to match lockers. Install with concealed fasteners.
  9. Front Fillers: 20 gauge steel formed in an angle shape, with 20 gauge slip joint angles formed in an angle shape with double bend on one leg forming a pocket to provide adjustable mating with angle filler.
    1. Attachment by means of concealed fasteners.
    2. Finish to match lockers.
  10. Recess Trim: 18 gauge steel, 3 inch (76.2 mm) face dimension.
    1. Vertical and/or horizontal as required.
    2. Standard lengths as long as practical.
    3. Attach to lockers with concealed clips.
    4. Provide necessary finish caps and splices.
    5. Finish to match lockers.
  11. Benches: Laminated selected hardwood, 1-1/4 inch (31.75 mm) full finished thickness, corners rounded and sanded, surfaces finished with two coats of clear lacquer.
    1. Depth: 9-1/2 inches (241.3 mm) deep.
    2. Depth: 12 inches (304.8 mm) deep.
    3. Depth: 16 inches (406.4 mm) deep.
    4. Depth: 18 inches (457.2 mm) deep.
    5. Depth: 20 inches (508 mm) deep.
    6. Depth: 24 inches (609.6 mm) deep.
    7. Lengths:  As shown.
  12. Heavy-Duty Bench Pedestals: Steel tubing with 11 gauge steel flanges welded to each end, 16-1/4 inches (412.75 mm) high, finish to match lockers.
  13. Stainless Steel Free-Standing Bench Pedestals: 2-inch (50.8 mm) diameter brushed 16 gauge stainless steel formed into a trapezoid, 14 inch (355.6 mm) wide bottom with two 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) diameter holes, top flange with four 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) diameter holes for fastening to bench


  1. Fabricate lockers square, rigid, without warp, with metal faces flat and free of distortion.
  2. Knock-Down Lockers: Fabricate lockers on the one wide unit principle, each locker with individual door and frame, individual top, bottom, back, and sides. 48” (1219.2 mm) wide backs come as two 24” (609.6 MM) wide pieces. Verify dimensions and arrangement before fabrication.
  3. Finish: Enamel powder coat paint finish electrostatically applied and properly cured to manufacturer’s specifications for optimum performance. Finishes containing  volatile organic compounds and subject to out-gassing are not acceptable. Locker exterior and interior shall be painted the same color.   
    1. Powder Coat - Dry Thickness:  1 to 1.2 mils.
    2. Powder Coat Plus - Dry Thickness:  2 to 2.2 mils.
    3. Color:  As selected from manufacturer's standard colors.
    4. Special Finish

  1. Do not begin installation until substrates and bases have been properly prepared.
  2. If substrate and bases are the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.


  1. Install metal lockers and accessories at locations shown in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Install lockers plumb, level, and square. Work is not to progress until site meets necessary conditions.
  3. Anchor lockers to floor and/or wall at 36 inches (914.4 mm) or less, as recommended by the manufacturer.
  4. Bolt adjoining locker units together to provide rigid installation.
  5. Install sloping tops and metal fillers using concealed fasteners. Provide flush hairline joints against adjacent surfaces.
  6. Install benches by fastening bench tops to pedestals and securely anchoring to the floor using appropriate anchors for the floor material.


  1. Adjust doors and latches to operate without binding. Verify that latches are operating satisfactorily.
  2. Adjust built-in locks to prevent binding of dial or key and ensure smooth operation prior to substantial completion.
  3. Touch-up with factory-supplied paint and repair or replace damaged products before substantial completion.

3.04      PROTECTION

  1. Protect installed products until completion of project.
